Glossary
Autonomic nervous system- is a division of the peripheral nervous system that influences the function of internal organs. It is part of the nervous system responsible for bodily functions not consciously directed, such as the heart beat and digestive processes. It plays an essential role in keeping the body’s internal environment in proper balance.
Biofield - also known as aura and human energy field, is an electro magnetic energy field that surrounds the human physical body. It is composed of several overlapping and interpenetrating energy bodies. It also consists of the chakra and meridian system within the body.
CAIEHP - Certified Advanced Integrative Energy Healing Practitioner is a graduate of the Vancouver Langara College Advanced Integrative Energy Healing Program, 2012. CAIEHP is based on an expansion of the curriculum from the Certified Integrative Energy Healing Program 2000-2011.
Chakra - is Sanskrit for “wheel or circle of light”. Each chakra stores, manages and transmits energy related to different physical and psychological functions. The chakras are associated with the different layers of the human energy field.
CIEHP - Certified Integrative Energy Healing Practitioner is a graduate of the Vancouver Langara College Integrative Energy Healing Program 2000 – 2011. A revised curriculum was developed and became the CAIEHP - Certified Advanced Integrative Energy Healing Practitioner Program in 2012.
Electro-magnetic field - comprised of electro-magnetic waves which are a broad spectrum of radiant energies that emanate from the human body.
Full Spectrum Therapeutic modality - full spectrum therapeutic modality addresses all the layers of the human energy field. It offers multi-dimensional healing for the physical, emotional, mental, transpersonal and spiritual bodies, allowing for self-transformation and physical well-being in a new paradigm.
Grounding - the state of being connected to the Earth and present in the physical body, to experience inner calm and balance.
Integrative - the practice of an energy session that reaffirms the importance of the relationship between practitioner and client, focuses on the whole person, is informed by evidence, and makes use of appropriate therapeutic approaches and health care professionals and disciplines to achieve optimal health and healing.
Nervous system regulation - trauma pushes the activation of the nervous system beyond its ability to self-regulate. Regulation techniques support the nervous system and help to bring it back into its window of tolerance when stress symptoms occur.
Reiki - is a form of alternative therapy that uses a hands-on and/or hands-off technique, and visualization with the goal of improving the flow of life energy.
Re-patterning the biofield - includes techniques such as smoothing, clearing, connecting, opening, balancing and aligning the biofield within the practice of integrative energy healing.
Resilience - having the capacity to bounce back or recover from difficult experiences. Resilience involves behaviours, thoughts, and actions that can be learned and developed.
Somatic Awareness - learning to sense within the body, trusting our body to communicate with us and tell us what we need in any given moment.
Transpersonal consciousness - is the psycho-spiritual realm beyond the purely personal that reaches to the wider spiritual dimensions of human experience.
Traumatic experience - is an incident or series of incidents that causes physical, emotional, mental or spiritual harm. The person experiencing the distressing event may feel threatened, anxious or frightened and may suffer long-term effects.
Whole person – a person who strives for, or experiences balance in all aspects of their lives.
